81 YVR 02: IT ONLY REMAINS TO ASK

Testing and talk to members. The latihan is for doing, not explaining. (Tests) Dance rhythmically - don't laugh: Bapak is gentle, but the angels testing you before God can be rough. The latihan enables you to find your right way in life. Only God knows where you are in the latihan, though your worldly state reflects that. Anyone who leaves Subud does not know what it confers, and will regret it at death. The latihan does not come from gurus; it is a receiving of a Power that can repair the irreparable. The loving God, Rahman, Rahim, Most Gracious, Ever Merciful, gives us everything - it only remains to ask.

81 LAX 01: A STATE OF CLARITY IN RAMADHAN

Use your latihan; learn when and how to use your nafsu. Ramadhan teaches us about the nafsu, and confers the lailatul quodar, a state of clarity, purity and peace, and enables us to live correctly, conscious and responsive to everything in the world. So put your receiving into practice; do enterprises; put up with failure and pain.

81 YVR 3: BAPAK IS FACING YOUR JIWA

Testing and talk to members - (Testing of two groups of women). Don't move with your will; Bapak is not facing that but your jiwa. Train yourself to move only when you need to. This testing of your movements will help you in talent testing. (Men's groups). This helps you to find out your faults and introduces you to all parts of your body, to teach you their function. (Talk). God has given you the forces and nafsu to use in handling this world, and something else, something received by the Prophets, passed on by Bapak, that can cleanse us of our ancestral sins and our own wrongs that could plague our descendants. Eventually you will be able to think with your jiwas, as the Prophets did, uneducated as they were. Christ said: 'In this world I am an ordinary human being, my throne is in the next.' So the latihan can show you your right course, and enterprises will help you reap the fruits of the latihan, with satisfaction, protected from wealth by God's Power. Contrast the rich, who have wealth sickness, constant anxiety, sleepless nights - like the sad Greek heiress, haunted by riches, waiting to die. 81-07-17 Vancouver, Canada.

81 NYC 5: WHAT REAL CHARITY IS

Why are non-Subud businessmen outstandingly successful? Because of complete dedication. The only limit God sets is not to exploit others. Businessmen can spread Subud: that's how Islam spread. Why have enterprises failed? Through half-heartedness. Enterprises lead to charity - helping others with what you have earned. 81-07-04 New York, USA.

83 LON 18: TALK TO YOUNG PEOPLE

Adam was happy in heaven and cried when God told him he would have to go down to earth. But he consented after God said he would like it and in the end be allowed to come back. In the same way we are happy in the security of our mother's womb, sensing things with our jiwa, close to God, and we cry when we are born. But gradually the memory fades, life becomes sweet, and we don't want to leave, and some of us lose belief in a God we can't see. In the latihan, however, we can regain contact with that vanished state. So we must work and worship, body and jiwa in harmony, and at death we jettison the body and return home. 83-08-14 Anugraha, United Kingdom.

83 LON 22: A TALK TO HELPERS AND COMMITTEE

Bapak answers questions put to him by the helpers. How can we strengthen ourselves to help the members? You can't, as the very wish comes from the nafsu. But in the peace of surrender, you can receive the understanding to solve their problems. Further about the nafsu - man's artifacts influence man because man made them. Don't think about sad things, trust God. This is the reality of worship. (Testing of a group of men) Walk as if wearing a pistol/very expensive clothes... How is a millionaire?... How do Germans, etc. work? Finish all tests calm and upright. Be diligent in the latihan, but don't try to force God.

83 LON 23: THE LATIHAN IN SICKNESS AND AGE

It is Bapak's ineluctable duty, more important than his life, to establish Subud and see that you don't waste your latihan; and the helpers must support Bapak. Bapak now knows what four years ago he did not know, what old age is - he wakes stiff and weary. Because of a sudden rise in his pulse rate, the doctors tried to stop him flying to Germany, and later from giving a talk in Paris, but Bapak prayed to God to show him His power, and went ahead. You too of Wisma Mulia must also not be scared of age, or complain, but surrender to God. Next, an important announcement: ISC is hampered by lack of funds. Don't let Subud grow weak, give 3%-5% of your salary. Also, ISC and National Committees must appoint a fundraiser. If the latihan cleanses you from your faults, it can also cleanse your ancestors. A son can bring his parents nearer to heaven, and a daughter too, especially if she marries a good man.

86 LON 3: YOUR SOUL WILL HAVE A TASK IN THE NEXT WORLD

The latihan is very special since it enables us to receive in our daily work, asleep, in the cinema, in troubled times. The important thing is to carry out what we receive. The latihan exercises your soul, which plays the major part in your being and will be given a task in the next world. Don't be afraid that you won't understand your receiving. 99 LON 01: GOD WATCHES AND PAYS ATTENTION TO ALL OUR ACTIONS

The connection between the human soul and the Power of God has weakened over the centuries until human beings have even forgotten it. The latihan re-introduces us to our own soul of which we were unaware and could not feel until now. God watches you and pays attention to your every action, and it is all recorded within your own being. The latihan has no deadline. For Subud members, death is a progression towards eternal life.

99 LON 02: THE FOUR PHASES OF LIVING

The four phases of living that each of us will pass through as followers of Subud. There is no end to the development of the soul. Our soul will continue to live and develop even after we are no longer in the world. Progress in the latihan goes deeper and deeper until it reaches your understanding and consciousness. By reading Bapak's talks you will understand the purpose of the latihan, and in turn you will be able to explain it to others who need it. The work of the wings - SDI, SICA, SYA, SES - lets those outside Subud understand the content of Subud.

99 NWH 01: ONLY GOD CAN HELP THE HUMAN SOUL

This gift of God that was received by Bapak is a way for human beings to be reminded that God constantly wants to show all of us the way to return to God as human beings. Even though you have done the latihan for a long time, you still have tests in your life which you must pass through. If these tests happen to you, don't despair, it is a reminder to you that you must turn your being to the light that you carry within from the latihan. If you find work that is easy to do and you feel free and open when you do it, that means that this work does not conflict with your soul.

99 NWH 02: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE LATIHAN AND OUR DAILY LIVES

In the spiritual realm no one is old and no one is young. Each of us trains to receive guidance that is true. Whether you work or are at home, you begin with some form of request to God to guide you in your daily activities. Do not mix what we receive here with something that you think will improve your latihan, but in reality is an obstacle that will obstruct the course of your life. The latihan will grow by itself, until it brings to life everything within you. It does not just fill what you can see, such as your hand or your head. It will also fill your heart and your mind. Perhaps you think that committee work is lower than helpers work. In truth, they are the same. (The talk ends with Ibu Rahayu answering questions from Subud youth.)
